Currently in Karunya: A Journey of Innovation, Global Collaboration, and Excellence
The beginning of 2026 has been marked by remarkable achievements and vibrant campus activities at the Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. Throughout January and February, the university demonstrated strong progress in international collaborations, student innovation, research, entrepreneurship, placements, sports, and social impact.
Karunya strengthened its international academic presence through high-level global engagements. The university hosted distinguished experts, including Dr. Paul Joseph from Victoria University, Australia, and Prof. Vladimir Popov from Ariel University, Israel, for research exchanges in sustainable infrastructure, circular economy, fire safety, and additive manufacturing. The institution also welcomed the President of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, for discussions on academic cooperation and innovation partnerships. Further expanding its global footprint, Karunya participated in the India-Arab University Presidents’ Summit in the UAE and deepened academic ties with Heriot-Watt University Malaysia for student mobility and collaborative research programs.
Student innovation and entrepreneurship remained a major highlight during these months. The Women’s Entrepreneurship Fair 2026 showcased more than 45 women-led innovations in the food, water, energy, and healthcare sectors, inspiring young entrepreneurs to transform ideas into impactful solutions. Karunya also partnered with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) through entrepreneurship workshops and innovation programs aimed at nurturing future business leaders. Furthermore, MBA students brought laurels to the university by securing first prize at the PSG Ideapreneur Competition with their AI-enabled smart bottle concept, “ThermoSense.”
Karunya also strengthened its industry engagement and placement ecosystem. TMB Bank conducted a major placement drive, engaging over 500 students and offering attractive career opportunities in banking and finance, particularly for Agriculture and MBA graduates. Several departments organized workshops, boot camps, and conclaves in emerging fields such as IoT, geospatial technologies, drone surveying, AI applications, electronics manufacturing, and biotechnology, ensuring students gained strong practical and industry-oriented exposure.
Research and intellectual property development continued to gain momentum. Karunya secured multiple patent grants and new patent filings in areas including renewable energy, healthcare devices, smart IoT systems, sustainable agriculture, and automation technologies. These innovations reflect the institution’s growing emphasis on research with societal relevance and global impact.
Beyond academics and technology, the university maintained its commitment to nation-building and social responsibility. Republic Day celebrations, NCC ranking ceremonies, and outreach initiatives such as “Anbin Arangam”—where Karunya’s Rotaract Club spread joy among village children—highlighted the university’s emphasis on leadership, discipline, compassion, and community engagement.
From groundbreaking research and international partnerships to student innovation and sporting excellence, the first two months of 2026 reflect Karunya University’s continued journey toward global relevance and transformative education. With its strong foundation in academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and values-based leadership, Karunya continues to empower students to become future-ready professionals and responsible global citizens.
The university’s alumni spirit was also celebrated during the Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion for the Batch of 2000 on December 28, 2025. This event brought together Karunyans from across the globe, reinforcing the institution’s strong international alumni network.
